# Payments

**Guests can pay for their booking online, by bank transfer or on site, in one payment or in installments. Payments go straight to you: Bookingmood is not in between and charges no commission.**

## [How payments work](#how-payments-work)

1. When a booking is made, its price is calculated from the [rent](https://www.bookingmood.com/en-US/docs/rent-and-restrictions/rent-prices) and the [booking form](https://www.bookingmood.com/en-US/docs/booking-form). The payment schedule of each price sets when it's due, for example 30% at confirmation and the rest 30 days before arrival.
2. An invoice is created with the payments that are due. For [instant bookings](https://www.bookingmood.com/en-US/docs/bookings/booking-requests-vs-instant-bookings) this happens right away; for booking requests you click _Generate invoice_ on the booking.
3. Guests see the invoice and the payments on their [guest page](https://www.bookingmood.com/en-US/docs/bookings/guest-page), and pay there.
4. Online payments are marked as paid automatically. Payments by bank transfer or on site you mark as paid yourself.

## [Choose a payment method](#choose-a-payment-method)

- Go to _Settings_ › _General_.
- Under _Payment method_, choose one:

| Payment method | How guests pay |
| --- | --- |
| _Manual_ | By your _Payment instructions_, such as bank transfer details or a payment link. You mark payments as paid yourself. |
| Online payment provider | Online, by card and other methods the provider offers. Payments are marked as paid automatically. |
| _Custom_ | Through your own payment integration, see [Custom payment integrations](https://www.bookingmood.com/en-US/docs/developers/custom-payments). |

### [Payment instructions for manual payments](#payment-instructions-for-manual-payments)

With _Manual_, enter the _Payment instructions_ guests see on their guest page, for example your bank details. You can also enter a payment link; `{{amount}}` and `{{reference}}` in the link are replaced with the amount and reference of the payment, for example `https://example.com/pay?amount={{amount}}&reference={{reference}}`.

Payment settings are available from the Availability plan. Instant bookings, which are confirmed after the first payment, need the Booking plan.
